West Jefferson is a town located in Jefferson County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 344.

Geography West Jefferson is located at 33°38'59" North, 87°4'16" West (33.649773, -87.071222)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 344 people, 138 households, and 108 families residing in the town. The population density is 184.5/km² (480.8/mi²). There are 143 housing units at an average density of 76.7/km² (199.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.71% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 138 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.0% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% are non-families. 18.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $47,813, and the median income for a family is $53,750. Males have a median income of $36,406 versus $30,000 for females.
