According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 28.18% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,867 people, 835 households, and 558 families residing in the town. The population density is 228.1/km² (590.8/mi²). There are 1,278 housing units at an average density of 156.2/km² (404.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.86% White, 0.43% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 835 households out of which 19.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% are non-families. 27.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
