Welsh Assembly

The Welsh Assembly elected on 1st May 2003 is the first Parliament with 50% women.

The Assembly is composed of 40 Assembly Members elected for single-member constituencies on a First Past the Post basis, the constituencies being equivalent to those used for the United Kingdom Parliament, and 20 AMs elected on regional lists which are intended to result in the Assembly more accurately reflecting the distribution of votes cast between the parties at the election.
