Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 102.3 km² (39.5 mi²). 102.1 km² (39.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,223 people, 465 households, and 344 families residing in the township. The population density is 12.0/km² (31.0/mi²). There are 536 housing units at an average density of 5.2/km² (13.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.02% White, 0.33% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.25% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 465 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.0% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
