Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,255 people, 967 households, and 591 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,226.3/km² (3,161.9/mi²). There are 1,017 housing units at an average density of 553.1/km² (1,426.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.67% White, 0.40% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.40% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 967 households out of which 25.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% are non-families. 33.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
