Waterloo, Illinois

Waterloo is a city located in Monroe County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,614. It is the county seat of Monroe County6.

Geography Waterloo is located at 38°20'7" North, 90°9'10" West (38.335243, -90.152685)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.4 km² (5.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.89% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 7,614 people, 2,912 households, and 2,076 families residing in the city. The population density is 527.8/km² (1,367.8/mi²). There are 3,015 housing units at an average density of 209.0/km² (541.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.78% White, 0.01% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,912 households out of which 37.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the city the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $46,938, and the median income for a family is $57,894. Males have a median income of $40,892 versus $24,685 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,081. 3.8% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.8% are under the age of 18 and 9.0% are 65 or older.
