Waseca County, Minnesota

Waseca County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 19,526. Its county seat is Waseca6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,121 km² (433 mi²). 1,096 km² (423 mi²) of it is land and 25 km² (10 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.21% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 19,526 people, 7,059 households, and 4,990 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (46/mi²). There are 7,427 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (18/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.65% White, 2.26% African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.29% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 2.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,059 households out of which 34.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.00% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.30% are non-families. 25.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.80% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 30.00% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 109.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 111.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $42,440, and the median income for a family is $50,081. Males have a median income of $34,380 versus $22,630 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,631. 6.50% of the population and 4.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.80% are under the age of 18 and 5.80% are 65 or older.
