Wasatch County, Utah

Wasatch County is a county located in the U.S. State of Utah. As of 2000, the population is 15,215. It was named for a Lite Indian word meaning mountain pass or low place in the high mountains. Its county seat is Heber City[?]6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,132 km² (1,209 mi²). 3,049 km² (1,177 mi²) of it is land and 82 km² (32 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.63% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 15,215 people, 4,743 households, and 3,870 families residing in the county. The population density is 5/km² (13/mi²). There are 6,564 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.62% White, 0.22% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.96% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. 5.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,743 households out of which 46.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.00% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.40% are non-families. 14.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.18 and the average family size is 3.55.

In the county, the population is spread out with 34.20% under the age of 18, 9.90% from 18 to 24, 29.00% from 25 to 44, 18.50% from 45 to 64, and 8.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 103.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $49,612, and the median income for a family is $52,102. Males have a median income of $37,399 versus $23,571 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,869. 5.20% of the population and 4.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.60% are under the age of 18 and 4.00% are 65 or older.
