Warsaw, Indiana

Warsaw is a city located in Kosciusko County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,415. The city is the county seat of Kosciusko County6.

Geography Warsaw is located at 41°14'26" North, 85°50'49" West (41.240564, -85.847002)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.9 km² (11.6 mi²). 27.1 km² (10.5 mi²) of it is land and 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.26% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,415 people, 4,794 households, and 3,068 families residing in the city. The population density is 457.4/km² (1,184.6/mi²). There are 5,101 housing units at an average density of 187.9/km² (486.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.50% White, 1.41% African American, 0.39% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 5.25% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 9.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,794 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% are non-families. 30.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the city the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,564, and the median income for a family is $45,153. Males have a median income of $33,322 versus $22,284 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,262. 9.2% of the population and 6.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.7% are under the age of 18 and 13.4% are 65 or older.
