Warrensburg, Missouri

Warrensburg is a city located in Johnson County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 16,340. It is the county seat of Johnson County6.

Geography Warrensburg is located at 38°45'47" North, 93°44'6" West (38.763101, -93.734956)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.0 km² (8.5 mi²). 21.8 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.71% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 16,340 people, 5,951 households, and 3,035 families residing in the city. The population density is 748.4/km² (1,938.5/mi²). There are 6,380 housing units at an average density of 292.2/km² (756.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.90% White, 6.46% African American, 0.64% Native American, 2.79% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, and 2.28% from two or more races. 2.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,951 households out of which 26.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.5% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 49.0% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the city the population is spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 36.5% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 12.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,332, and the median income for a family is $45,845. Males have a median income of $30,354 versus $22,154 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,714. 24.3% of the population and 13.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.1% are under the age of 18 and 11.4% are 65 or older.
