Warren County is a county located in the U.S. State of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 6,336. The county's county seat is Warrenton, Georgia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 743 km² (287 mi²). 739 km² (286 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.43% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,336 people, 2,435 households, and 1,692 families residing in the county. The population density is 9/km² (22/mi²). There are 2,767 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (10/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 39.46% White, 59.47% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,435 households out of which 30.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.10% are married couples living together, 22.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% are non-families. 27.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.40% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 16.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 86.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $27,366, and the median income for a family is $32,868. Males have a median income of $28,177 versus $20,082 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,022. 27.00% of the population and 24.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 36.00% are under the age of 18 and 27.50% are 65 or older.
