Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,092 people, 768 households, and 530 families residing in the city. The population density is 542.1/km² (1,401.1/mi²). There are 842 housing units at an average density of 218.2/km² (563.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 66.20% White, 21.70% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 9.89% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 20.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 768 households out of which 37.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
