Wabasha County, Minnesota

Wabasha County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 21,610. Its county seat is Wabasha6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,424 km² (550 mi²). 1,360 km² (525 mi²) of it is land and 64 km² (25 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.51% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 21,610 people, 8,277 households, and 5,876 families residing in the county. The population density is 16/km² (41/mi²). There are 9,066 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (17/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.97% White, 0.25% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.62% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 1.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,277 households out of which 33.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.80% are married couples living together, 6.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.00% are non-families. 24.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.10% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 15.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 100.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $42,117, and the median income for a family is $50,480. Males have a median income of $33,053 versus $24,316 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,664. 6.00% of the population and 4.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.00% are under the age of 18 and 9.30% are 65 or older.
