Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,931 people, 1,681 households, and 1,250 families residing in the town. The population density is 845.0/km² (2,192.4/mi²). There are 1,738 housing units at an average density of 247.6/km² (642.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.81% White, 0.32% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 2.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,681 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.7% are married couples living together, 4.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.6% are non-families. 24.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
