Vieille

A vieille was a form of early bowed stringed instrument, similar to a modern violin. The instrument was also known as a fiedel or a viuola.

Several modern groups of musicians have formed into bands to play early (pre-baroque) music, and they sometimes include vieilles, or modern reproductions, in their ensembles, together with other instruments such as rebecs, saz, theorbo.
