Vayalar Ramavarma

Vayalar Ramavarma was one of the most popular and gifted poets of modern Malayalam literature. He is popularly known as Vayalar. He published many works, which include Sargasangeetham, Mulankkadu and Padamudra. Born on 15th March of 1928 in a village called Vayalar, located in Alleppey (Allappuzha) district. It is not accidental that he became committed to Communist Party of India[?], which was very influential in Kerala during his young age. He was awarded Kerala Sahithya Academy Award (Kerala literary academy award) in 1961.

He is much more popular as a lyrics writer for Malayalam movies. He wrote about 2000 songs, many of which reflect the sorrows and happiness of common man. He died on October 27, 1975. He received President's gold medal for best lyrics in 1974. Even after a quarter of a century, people cherish his songs and poems.
