The area where Vaughan is now was originally settled in the late 18th Century as a farming community. Over the last 40 years it has become a suburb of Toronto. Vaughan, which consists of smaller communities such as Thornhill, Concord and Woodbridge, was officially incorporated as a town in 1969 and as a city in 1991.
Several manufacturers are based in Vaughan, but the largest employer is the Paramount Canada's Wonderland[?] amusement park.
