Van Halen (album)

Van Halen is heavy metal band Van Halen's first album. It was recorded in 1977 and released in February of 1978. Though it presages the actual rise of hair metal, Van Halen was one of the major influences of the emerging genre and this album, a blockbuster, particularly by late 1970s heavy metal standards, was one of the most important recordings in the development of American metal.

Eddie van Halen's guitar solo, "Eruption", was hugely influential on many guitarists, and is particularly responsible for the popularity of tapping.
