Valley is a city located in Chambers County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 9,198.

Geography Valley is located at 32°48'40.993" North, 85°10'40.577" West (32.811387, -85.177938).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.2 km² (9.7 mi²). 25.2 km² (9.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,198 people, 3,832 households, and 2,605 families residing in the city. The population density is 364.6/km² (944.2/mi²). There are 4,194 housing units at an average density of 166.3/km² (430.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 70.17% White, 28.78% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,832 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% are non-families. 29.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $31,395, and the median income for a family is $37,963. Males have a median income of $30,159 versus $21,325 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,008. 14.9% of the population and 12.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.6% are under the age of 18 and 17.1% are 65 or older.
