That wasn't always my name, but it is now. It comes from the
French originally. I come from
Pennsylvania originally, but now I live in
New Jersey and I work in
Manhattan. The name Paige
means (
http://health.yahoo.com/bnfname?n=paige) "attendant", which is apropos, since I endeavor to be a helpful, caring person. I also
love to make lame
jokes, and I think that a voracious
reader and striving
author who works in
publishing and happens to be named Paige is just plain funny, you know? Get it Paige,
page?
I am NOT a fairy, fruit, gay, homo, lisper, pansy, queer, fag, queen, sissy, panty-waist, pervert, freak, sinner or sicko.
To understand why I am none of these things, please see:
pre-op transsexual,
transgender,
human sexuality,
gender and sexuality studies,
transition,
sex chromosome,
sex,
gender,
hormones,
estrogen,
antiandrogen,
electrolysis,
name change,
sexual reassignment surgery
In addition, any or all of the following may also aply:
she,
her,
hers,
girl,
woman,
friend, daughter,
sister,
girlfriend,
feminist,
young adult,
human,
female,
WikiWoman...and
happy.
All of that said, I don't expect everyone else to
understand the choices I felt I had to make in my life or the
path (
http://www.tsroadmap.com) that I've taken. If male-to-female transsexuals only account for one out of every
30,000 adults (
http://www.hbigda.org/socv6#02), and the average person knows aproximately
one hundred people, then chances are that you have never known any one with my particular
problem.
That's okay. (

All I ask is that you respect (http://www.aclu.org/LesbianGayRights/LesbianGayRightslist.cfm?c=105) the fact that I'm not hurting any one, I'm really just trying to fix an error that occured 25 years ago, a birth defect, if you will.
If you think you can do that, that's really great. I like Wikipedia because I think shared knowledge is a really good thing, and since my experience in life is...well, kind of unique, I don't really mind answering (mailto:next_paige@hotmail.com) legitimate questions or hearing from new people.
Love,
Paige
xoxo

- It finally stopped raining! And it couldn't have picked a better time: this Sunday is the Pride parade (http://www.nycpride.org/index.htm) here in New York, which is held every year on the last Sunday in June in honor of the Stonewall riots that started this whole great thing off!
- I actually won't be in town for the parade, for the first time in years, because I'll be with my parents this weekend at the beach in New Jersey. (The simple fact is that having such supportive and loving parents means the world to me, so there will be another parade next year.)
- I just can't think of a better year for LGBT pride though: Same-sex marriage in Canada, Lawrence v. Texas, NY finally deleted the anti-LGBT language in it's laws, and for the first year - I'm OUT!
