While I wish to retain my deletion and undeletion powers solely for the purpose of merging page histories or moving page titles, I would like to announce here that I will no longer take any other sysop-restricted actions, until further notice. I hope you can all trust me to keep my word on this matter.

This means I will no longer:

  • protect or unprotect pages
  • edit protected pages
  • block or unblock IP addresses
  • delete or undelete pages, except where merging page histories or moving page titles
  • delete images
  • perform queries on the Wikipedia database (I never did anyway)

Note that I do not consider that my words on Wikipedia have now, or have ever had, any kind of special legal or other significance. I do not consider myself a representative of Jimbo Wales, nor of Wikipedia, nor do I speak on behalf of anyone but myself. And, of course, IANAL.

Yours, etc

I would like you to reconsider your decision :-) (anthere)

I'm reclaiming that blessed non-sysop status that you yourself relinquished only reluctantly... be happy for me ;-)

no. I am not happy. Because you were a safety valve. What you were doing required in big part that you were sysop; if you are not using this, you will not be able to go on doing that. Criticism is fine and must be considered. But this is far beyond criticism. There is little wall against groupthinking and potential abuse now, that's all.

It's no biggy, anthere, I'm just going to focus a bit more on the non-controversial stuff for a while. I'm happy to see how it all pans out. Martin 23:06 30 Jun 2003 (UTC)

well. If you believe some ip needs to be unblocked or pages to be undeleted, but don't want to drip your fingers in it, just drop me a word. Or let us just see things drifting again. In hope social gains are not lost in the process. That's equal, I am soon on holidays. Thanks for casting some light and peace anyway.
