US National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence

The National [Advisory] Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence (NCCPV) was formed, in 1968, by US President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Official Statements of the NCCPV

  • "Children are inclined to learn from television because it is never too busy to talk to them, and it never has to brush them aside while it does household chores." (September 25, 1969)

  • "There is a criminal justice process through which each offender passes from the police, to the courts, and back unto the streets. The inefficiency, fall-out, and failure of purpose during this process is notorious."
