USS Louisiana (BB-71)

Building of a Montana-class battleship to be named USS Louisiana (BB-71) in honor of the 18th state was authorized July 19, 1940, and assigned to the Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia; but, before her keel was laid, construction was canceled July 21, 1943. Louisiana would have been the fourth ship to bear that name had she been commissioned; she was the last American battleship authorized.

Other ships of the United States Navy have borne the name Louisiana; see that index page.
