The University of North Carolina at Greensboro was founded in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1891 by Charles Duncan McIver as the "State Normal School for Girls." It later became the Women's College of the University of North Carolina and is now a coeducational autonomous campus of the University of North Carolina System. Its sports teams are called the "Spartans."
