Universe (software)

Universe is one of the top contenders in the 3D / computer graphics arena, published by Electric Image. This software suite is often used in the film and TV industry, though it gets far less publicity than Maya (by Alias wavefront).

The current version, Universe 5 was released on September 25, 2002. It has:

3D Modeler (EIM):

• ACIS modeling
• ubernurbs
• LAWS (Based on parametric formulas)

Animation Package (EIA)

• Uses FACT Model format
• Has Function Curve editor

Rendering App (Camera)

• Phong
• Raytracing
• Radiosity

Network Rendering (Renderama)

• Cross-platform rendering (Windows/OS 9/OS X)
• Multi processor support
