Umtata, a small town in the Eastern Province of
South Africa, formerly the capital of the Republic of
Transkei. The town was founded in
1869 by its first Chief Constable,
Richard Calverley[?]. The Calverley family arrived as part of the British immigration plan with the 1820 Settlers in
Port Elizabeth[?].
