Tryon, Oklahoma

Tryon is a town located in Lincoln County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 448.

Geography Tryon is located at 35°52'21" North, 96°57'47" West (35.872494, -96.963078)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.43% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 448 people, 185 households, and 118 families residing in the town. The population density is 75.2/km² (194.7/mi²). There are 229 housing units at an average density of 38.4/km² (99.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 82.81% White, 0.00% African American, 13.62% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 2.46% from two or more races. 2.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 185 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 33.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.08.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $21,696, and the median income for a family is $27,361. Males have a median income of $28,382 versus $18,125 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,730. 14.1% of the population and 12.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.4% are under the age of 18 and 10.5% are 65 or older.
