Tropopause

The tropopause is a boundary region in the atmosphere, between the troposphere and the stratosphere. The troposphere starts from the ground level, and its height ranges from 6 to 17 km (4 to 11 miles), depending on its latitude. The stratosphere starts from 17 km (11 miles) in altitude, and it reaches as high as 50 km (31 miles) from the earth's surface. This is also the location where you'll find the ozone layer. Respectively, you'll find the tropopause between the altitude of 5 to 11 miles. The region of tropopause is determined by calculating the lapse rate through the troposphere and the stratosphere. When the atmosphere is in its transitional stage from one classification to the other (example: "from troposphere to the stratosphere"), it shows little or no change in temperature.
