Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire

The Triangle Shirtwaist Company, garment manufacturers, had a factory in the Asch building in Greenwich Village (in the present NYU campus area) in New York City. A fire on March 25, 1911 killed 146 out of 500 workers. The company owners were charged with manslaughter but acquitted. The fire was a boost for the cause of factory safety and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union[?].
