Treaty of Ghent

On December 24, 1814, the United States and Great Britain signed the Treaty of Ghent, ending the War of 1812. Despite the signing of the treaty, the war continued for several weeks, including the Battle of New Orleans as the news of the treaty took time to reach the hinterlands of North America.

The treaty did not resolve the main issue that engendered the war, the impressment[?] of sailors. However, as the Napoleonic Wars ended, that practice too began to fade.
