Trapper Creek, Alaska

Trapper Creek is a town located in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 423.

Geography Trapper Creek is located at 62°18'29" North, 150°21'3" West (62.308138, -150.350876)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 960.3 km² (370.8 mi²). 945.1 km² (364.9 mi²) of it is land and 15.2 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.58% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 423 people, 182 households, and 123 families residing in the town. The population density is 0.4/km² (1.2/mi²). There are 361 housing units at an average density of 0.4/km² (1.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.71% White, 0.24% African American, 8.27% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 3.31% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 182 households out of which 24.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.74.

In the town the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 39.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 121.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 125.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,031, and the median income for a family is $34,250. Males have a median income of $65,446 versus $11,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $18,247. 24.7% of the population and 27.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.7% are under the age of 18 and 22.6% are 65 or older.
