Tourism in Seychelles

GENERAL:

A constant climate throughout the year make the Seychelles an ideal last minute destination for those who are looking for an uncomplicated and peaceful tropical holiday - island hopping is at your disposal. The Seychelles are truly not at the cheap end of the price chain, but in return you get the privilege to be amongst the only 130 000 visitors per year, that get the real chance of having this "being alone on a tropical beach" experience. The more well-off might welcome the new breed of 5 star venues, among them such exclusive island resorts as the private islands of Fregate and Felicite or Cousin or the newly built Lemuria on Praslin with its adjacent 18 hole golf course or the Banyan Tree Hotel at Ance Intendance in the south of Mahe.

CLIMATE:

Because of the geographical position close to the equator the Seychelles, and the granitic Islands in particular have a tropical maritime climate with little variations throughout the year. Nevertheless, there are three basic "seasons" to distinguish: the cooler and drier period of the south-east monsoons from May to October, the wetter and hotter north-west monsoons from December to March and there are a kind of transitional seasons in April/May as well as in October/November. Sea temperature is at a comfortable 26° to 30° C the whole year around making Seychelles an excellent bathing and diving resort throughout the year. The Humidity levels are at about 75% to 83% throughout the year, and can sometimes drop to just around 50% for a short term. The mean annual temperature on Mahé island is 26.9° C with an average maximum of 29.8° C and an average minimum of around 24.4 °C. Monthly hours of sunshine based on the measurements since 1972 indicate, that the sun shines for about seven hours per day with little variations throughout the year, because although the rain is certainly heavier in some month, it never lasts for more than an hour or two. Wet weather persisting for several days or even a week is quite exceptional on Seychelles.
