Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 16,577 people, 6,469 households, and 4,748 families residing in the county. The population density is 25/km² (64/mi²). There are 6,848 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (26/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.35% White, 0.14% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
