Timmins, Ontario

Timmins (2001 population 40,256) is a city in northern Ontario, Canada. At 3,185 square kilometres, Timmins is Canada's largest city in land area.

The city was founded in 1912 after three gold mines were discovered in the area. Mining, of gold and other metals such as silver, zinc, copper, and nickel, is the dominant industry in the area. Forestry is also important to the local economy.

Famous Timmins natives include country singer Shania Twain.
