Timberon, New Mexico

Timberon is a town located in Otero County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 309.

Geography Timberon is located at 32°37'54" North, 105°41'32" West (32.631675, -105.692254)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 52.3 km² (20.2 mi²). 52.3 km² (20.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 309 people, 145 households, and 98 families residing in the town. The population density is 5.9/km² (15.3/mi²). There are 458 housing units at an average density of 8.7/km² (22.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.59% White, 0.00% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.21% from other races, and 3.56% from two or more races. 12.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 145 households out of which 14.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% are married couples living together, 2.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 29.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.52.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.2% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 15.2% from 25 to 44, 36.6% from 45 to 64, and 28.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 54 years. For every 100 females there are 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $24,519, and the median income for a family is $25,804. Males have a median income of $13,000 versus $25,278 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,743. 9.5% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.0% are under the age of 18 and 4.9% are 65 or older.
