Thorn, Netherlands

Thorn (population 2,602) is a town in the southern Netherlands, in the province Limburg.

It has some fame for its white-washed brick houses. Thorn started as an abbey in the 10th century, founded by Bishop Ansfried of Utrecht. It became the smallest independent state in the German Holy Roman Empire.

The current municipality has an area of 6.60 km² (0.88 km² water).
