Author, journalist and photographer Thomas Jackson has been a prominent figure in New York City cultural criticism since the mid-nineties, when his early book reviews attracted much attention. He has since gone on to expand his repertoire to include music reviews as well as insightful commentary on the ever-expanding world of home entertainment.
While his status among the literary elite is unchallenged, and his writing the recipient of numerous awards, Jackson is perhaps even better known for his peculiar habit of wearing a monocle OVER an eyepatch on his right eye. This bizarre embellishment has been a fixture in NYC nightlife for as long as Jackson has, and no one has been able to explain it. There is some speculation among admirers that the monocle and eyepatch serve as a metaphor, but Jackson's prose leaves no clues.
His extensive travels in South America, particularly Brazil, have earned him the nickname "homem estranho alto " among locals - literally "tall strange man." In areas immediately suurounding Sao Paulo, he is referred to as "homem alto com monocle," or "tall man with monocle." A preoccupation with wildlife photography, especially pictures depicting dead or decaying animals, has only served to further shroud his reputation in mystery.
