Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Arundel and Surrey

Thomas Howard, 2nd Earl of Arundel and Surrey (1586-1646), was a prominent courtier during the reigns of James I and Charles I but made his name as an art collector rather than a politician. His collection of marble carvings was left to the University of Oxford.
