Thomas Fincke

Thomas Fincke (born 1561 in Flensburg, Schleswig; died 1656 in Copenhagen) was a Danish mathematician and physicist, and a professor at the University of Copenhagen for more than sixty years.

His lasting achievement is found in his book Geometria rotundi (1583), where he introduced the trigonometric functions tangent and secant.
