The Strokes are an American rock and roll band hailing from New York, endlessly hyped upon their debut in the United Kingdom. The group, Julian Casablancas[?], Nick Valensi[?], Albert Hammond Jr.[?], Nikolai Fraiture[?] and Fabrizio Moretti[?], released their debut album Is This It? in 2001. The group formed in New York City and instantly gained fame for their live shows in New York. The band's members had been long-time fans, and several came from prestigious families, including the son of a modeling agency executive and a professional musician. The Modern Age[?] (EP) was released in 2001 and sparked a bidding war as well as endless hype. After a level of fame not reached since Oasis in the UK, the band finally released Is This It? in 2002.
