The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove

The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove is an absurdist fiction novel by author Christopher Moore. In the novel, the small fictional town of Pine Cove, California suffers a major crisis when the town psychiatrist, Val Riordan, who has been haphazardly issuing perscriptions instead of dealing with real mental issues, suffers a sudden bout of guilt and substitutes all of her patients anti-depressants with placebo pills. At the same time, a prehistoric sea-beast (who uses a pheremone that inspires extreme sexual lust to lure in his prey) wanders into the town. The inevitable madness ensues as local characters (including a pot smoking town constable, a mentally-ill aging former B-movie star, and a black Southern bluesman) all chip in to stop the beast's reign of terror.

The book was turned into a script at the internet game-site "Producers Chair" (www.producerschair.com) where participants go through a fictional Hollywood movie making process. The film did so well in this fictional environment that it caught the notice of both Moore and several of the fictionally cast Hollywood stars. As a result, the film is now in real-life pre-production phase.
