The Colony, Texas

The Colony is a city located in Denton County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,531.

Geography The Colony is located at 33°5'27" North, 96°53'5" West (33.090874, -96.884659)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.8 km² (15.7 mi²). 35.4 km² (13.7 mi²) of it is land and 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.15% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 26,531 people, 8,462 households, and 7,141 families residing in the city. The population density is 749.9/km² (1,942.1/mi²). There are 8,812 housing units at an average density of 249.1/km² (645.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 84.46% White, 5.18% African American, 0.71% Native American, 1.68% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.30% from other races, and 2.62% from two or more races. 13.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,462 households out of which 53.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.7% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.6% are non-families. 11.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.14 and the average family size is 3.41.

In the city the population is spread out with 34.0% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 38.0% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 2.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $64,080, and the median income for a family is $66,203. Males have a median income of $44,208 versus $30,530 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,903. 2.8% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.4% are under the age of 18 and 5.8% are 65 or older.
