The Battle of Portland, also known as the Three Days' Battle, occurred early in 1653 during the First Anglo-Dutch War. English ships attacked the Dutch admiral Maarten Tromp as he escorted merchantmen through the English Channel. Tromp lost 50 merchant vessels and 12 warships, but escaped through good manoeuvering. The English admiral Robert Blake was wounded during the battle.
