Tethys Sea

The Tethys Sea is the name is given to the Tethys Ocean during the last 20 million years or so of its existence. At the time it was becoming smaller and smaller due to the approach of Africa and Europe through continental drift, and the word "sea" is used to distinguish it from the days when it was one of the world's two major oceans.
