Telemark skiing

Telemark is a modern downhill skiing event that originates from the traditions of Sondre Norheim. Unlike Alpine skiing techniques, the Telemark ski has a foot binding that is only connected at tip, just as in cross-country skiing. Turns are executed with the inner leg fully bent, the outer kept parallel.

The sport started out much as a reaction to the equipment hysteria of modern Alpine skiing, and use of traditional clothing is part of the original Telemark skiing concept.

The sport is governed by the International Ski Federation Telemark Committee.
