Teays, West Virginia

The community of Teays in Putnam County, West Virginia was named for the Teays Valley which was in turn named for Thomas Teays, a hunter and trapper who once spent a considerable amount of time. It is apparently the only place in the United States with this name. Until about 1884 the town's name was written "Seays".
