Taylor County, Wisconsin

Taylor County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 19,680. Its county seat is Medford[?]6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,550 km² (984 mi²). 2,525 km² (975 mi²) of it is land and 25 km² (10 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.98% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 19,680 people, 7,529 households, and 5,345 families residing in the county. The population density is 8/km² (20/mi²). There are 8,595 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.71% White, 0.09% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,529 households out of which 33.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.30% are married couples living together, 7.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.00% are non-families. 24.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.10.

In the county, the population is spread out with 27.10% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 21.80% from 45 to 64, and 15.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 102.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.40 males.
