Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,332 people, 1,792 households, and 1,370 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,639.4/km² (6,819.4/mi²). There are 1,817 housing units at an average density of 899.4/km² (2,323.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 51.76% White, 14.44% African American, 0.66% Native American, 14.14% Asian, 0.54% Pacific Islander, 12.55% from other races, and 5.91% from two or more races. 23.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,792 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.96 and the average family size is 3.34.
