Tara (Ireland)

Tara is an ancient ruin in Meath[?], Ireland. It is considered one of the most mythical sites of Ireland. From the Celtic invasion till the invasion of Strongbow[?] (1169) it was the political and spiritual center of the island.

Until Strongbow's invasion the High King of Ireland lived at Tara and ruled Ireland (though only in name).

In the nineteenth century, the Irish Member of Parliament Daniel O'Connell hosted a peaceful Home Rule political demonstration[?] in Tara which drew 1 million people, which indicates the enduring importance of Tara.

Only ruins now remain of what once was Ireland's de facto capitol.
