I've begun making this something like a regular entry - external links are not really best embedded in entries. White Papers are common, so this is 'a "White Paper"' rather than 'the'. What went on in Europe for Britain to 'give' the Golan Heights to the French Mandate? It's got to have been more complicated than this summary says. --MichaelTinkler

I've rewritten the article and added some stuff about the War of Independence per se, however it still needs much work (the Egyptian, Syrian, Jordanian moves, Israeli forces - 7 brigades, chronology of ceasefire agreements etc). --Uriyan

Changed name of article to that usually used in English -- "1948 Arab-Israeli War"... which is neutral. "Israeli War of Independence" is not a term a Palestinian or Arab would use. -- SJK
